Lake Austin is fishable year-round as are most Central and South Texas lakes. Techniques change as well as location, but Lake Austin has a reputation for being very good all year. Lake Austin is a Trophy Bass lake. In the last couple of years, the size of bass being caught in this lake has been astonishing. Therefore, Brian has focused his guide service as Trophy Bass Hunting. There is no feeling better, in Brian’s opinion than catching Double-Digit monster bass.
Lake Austin is the 6th lake in the Highland Lakes Chain and was impounded in 1939. Lake Austin covers 1,830 surface acres and has a maximum depth of only 75 feet.
According to Austin Travel Guides, Lake Austin is very fondly thought of as the best-kept secret in Central Texas. The lake offers an abundance of various aquatic vegetation that holds the Hawgs. Austin has many areas on the lake offering hydrilla, milfoil, and pondweed.

Map of Lake Austin Fishing
The lake stays very cool year-round because it is near the end of the Highland lakes chain. The cooler water brings out many recreational boaters making fishing during the summertime challenging, but can be very enjoyable during the weekdays, and early in the day.
During the summer months, night fishing is encouraged due to the amount of boat traffic and Brian’s experience with finding nighttime giants. Night fishing has historically been EXTREMELY good on Lake Austin from April thru Oct. Brian would highly suggest you taking a night trip with him during these times. It is most definitely an incredible experience landing a giant at night!

Bassquatch Fishing

Lake Austin is one of the lakes that I take into consideration for clients looking to bag some bigger bass. Bites often aren’t as plentiful on this lake, but the bass are often bigger. Formerly one of the best bass fishing lakes in the nation, the ecosystem took a hard hit due to the overpopulation of grass carp sometime around 2013. While the fishing has not been as spectacular on Lake Austin as it used to be, it still remains as one of the better lakes for targeting large bass. – andermeine.com
