Lake Conroe Fishing offers a wide variety for different times of the year. I’m a firm believer in teaching a person to fish in order to feed them for a lifetime instead of giving them a fish and feeding them for a day.

Fish in Lake Conroe

Lake Conroe has an abundance of Black Bass, White Bass, Hybrid Bass, Catfish, Bream & Crappie.

We have provided you with the chart below as a quick reference to identify and know the difference between “White Bass” and “Hybrid Bass”. There has been some confusion on the part of many fishermen in the past. The sure fire way to be sure what kind of fish you have is to examine the ‘tooth patch’ as identified below. The White Bass only has to be 10 inches to be a legal fish in your livewell.

Lake Conroe Fishing Report

Black Bass: Black Bass fishing is picking up on Lake Conroe this month. Some very good catches are coming in on deep diving crankbaits. Crank baits in shad, chrome and chartreuse are working. Midday try deeper water with worms. White and chartreuse spinnerbaits will also take a few fish especially on the north end of the lake and along riprap. Worms in black/blue, pumpkinseed and plum are all taking fish during the middle of the day in 15 to 25 feet around brush or other submerged structure. On the North End fish are moving to the 5 to 10 foot depths and can be caught on soft plastics in Black/blue, Tequila and Pumpkin colors.

White Bass: White Bass action is slow on Lake Conroe. September should bring some of the years best action for Whites. To locate Whites troll small deep diving crankbaits in Chrome, White or Chartreuse over main lake humps, ridges and points keeping an eye on your electronics for the bait or brush. Look for schooling action in late afternoon and cast small crankbaits into the schools from as far out ass you can cast. When they go down jig the bottom with 1/2 and 1/4 ounce chrome and chartreuse spoons.

Crappie: Crappie are also slightly slow but should also be picking up soon. They can be found with your electronics by cruising main lake points at depths of 25-35 feet until you locate submerged brush or trees. Some are still in the 15-20 foot range. Minnows are the most effective of catching them, but they can also be caught on 1/8 ounce spinner baits and Beetle Spins. Good luck and good fishing. Remember to take home just enough for dinner. Leave the rest for seed.
