Shimano fishing reels perform well in any condition. I have two Shimano reels and they have helped me pull in more fish than I can count.
In the years since the 1920’s, when Shozaburo Shimano introduced his first fishing rod, the company has become known the world over for the quality and innovation of its rods, reels and lures. Whether you prefer spinning or baitcasting, Shimano has made sure that they combine their high manufacturing quality with the technological advances in design to produce reels that meet the needs of any fisherman.
Whether you want freshwater reels or saltwater reels, Shimano can deliver. They have many different models for you to choose from. In their conventional reel line, they offer a whopping eighteen different models of reels alone. These are designed for everything from reeling in massive saltwater fish to coaxing salmon out of calmer backwater conditions. Shimano fishing reels have the styling and quality construction to hold up to anything that the water can throw at you.

Trinidad line of saltwater reels
Take the Trinidad line of saltwater reels. There are nine individual models of reel in the Trinidad line and all can handle serious fish. They have a great IPT rating which ranges from 36IPT for the TN12 and TN14 to a massive 46” for the TN16N, TN16, TN20 and TN30. All of these are built to stand up to salt water with lightweight aluminum construction, high efficiency gearing and anti rust bearings. These are very important when you consider that salt water can be exceptionally corrosive and can chew through metal reels before you know it. When you see a reel that is specifically designed to deal with these adverse conditions you need to make sure you take advantage of the advantage that can give you when you are out on the water.
Shimano fishing reels for freshwater
Shimano Nexave fishing reels for freshwater are also approached with the same reverence and attention to detail. Take the Sustain FE. This is a sleek and beautiful looking spinning reel that is perfect for many different breeds of fish. It has been completely re-engineered in 2007 and now has a number of different features which result in a superlative fishing experience.
The all new Nexave Spinning Reel from Shimano offers a sleek new body design, improved cosmetics, higher max drag settings, and all of this at a reduced weight.
Graphite
Graphite is now used on the rotor and side-plate which, along with the aluminum frame and spool, means that it is very lightweight without compromising on the strength of the unit. There are seven models in this line and all have a very respectable line uptake rating. The SA1000FE has the shortest line uptake length at 29 inches per crank whereas the SA6000FE and SA8000FE both top out at 42 inches per crank.

These last two reels also have a great drag rating of up to twenty nine pounds of max drag. This means you are dealing with a reel which is capable of handling some very serious fish. This line of reels is also rated for saltwater use and this can be great if you want to have one reel that will work for both water conditions.
Use multiple types
The nice thing about many Shimano fishing reels is the ability to use multiple types of lines with them. For example, the Sustain FE line of reels can be used with three different types of line: mono, fluorocarbon and the new PowerPro line as well. This only adds to their versatility and helps to explain why they are so popular with anglers the world over.
If you are in the market for a new reel, Shimano fishing reels should be on your short list of manufacturer’s to consider.
